Samsung to Reduce Chip Production in US
March 26, 2014

Samsung is reportedly to cut processor chip production in its Texas fab, which hires some 5,500 employees and creates around US$1.5 billion in annual revenue, as the facility's major customer Apple is shifting orders to Taiwanese manufacturer TSMC, reported the Korea Times on March 25. Samsung's investment to the plant, which saw the utilization rate declined to under 70% in February, is expected to fell below 1 trillion won (US$1=1075 won; US$930 million) this year. Samsung has invested a total of $13 billion in the plant since 1996—its largest foreign investment to date.
